The gym has traditionally been thought of as a cheesy place to pick people up. Even with places like David Burton and Equinox turning down the lights, turning up the music spun by in-house DJs and offering healthy “shots,” most people are still way more likely to hit the bar scene to meet people than chat up the person on the treadmill next to them. But things might be changing.
According to a new study, more than 50 percent of millennials would be interested in meeting a new significant other while during a fitness activity. Almost 40 percent would rather go on an extreme fitness or outdoor recreation date than dinner and a movie. And 44 percent say they would be more likely to swipe right on someone who has a fitness-related photo.

That said, the study was performed by Tough Mudder, so the people who took the study might be more extreme fitness inclined. Either way, it’s worth it to consider some out-of-the-box ideas for your next date. If you are so inclined, of course there's an app for that. MeetMeOutside is a fitness-based dating app where users are matched up based on their health habits, like yoga or running. How did people meet before apps again?
