Man killed in Queens hit-and-run, suspect at large

A Wednesday night hit-and-run in Queens has left one victim dead and authorities investigating surveillance footage for a vehicle that fled the scene.

The victim, a 45-year-old man, was struck around 11 p.m. near the corner of 21stStreet and 30thRoad in Astoria, the New York Daily News reported. A red Toyota that sped away is believed to be the car that hit him.

Authorities found the man in the road with severe injuries, CBS2 added. He was later pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital.

“Sometimes cars come flying down here,” resident Pat Quigley was quoted in the CBS2 report. “People have been trying to get a traffic light over here.”

Pieces from a car and a shoe were found close to the scene of the crash, according to the Daily News, which added that investigators were still looking for surveillance footage of the incident.

“There’s a Boys and Girls Club [on the corner] and kids run onto the street and get hit,” Quigley was quoted by the Daily News. “I remember a kid getting hit here like 10 years ago.”

There is no crosswalk where the hit-and-run took place, according to CBS2.
