Man with laser pointer arrested on assault charges, police say

A Bronx man was arrested Monday night after allegedly pointing a laser at airplanes. He was also booked on assault charges after the beams hurt the eyes of several pilots.

Police said the FAA contacted the NYPD after observing a laser beam pointed at airplanes taking off and landing at LaGuardia Airport just before 10 p.m. A canvass by the NYPD Aviation Unit found the light was coming from an apartment at 2801 Coddington Avenue in the Bronx — about eight miles away from the airport.

The suspect’s mother let the responding officers into her home, and the cops found a laser pointer on top of the refrigerator.

Frank Egan, 36, admitted to officers he had been pointing the laser.

Three pilots received minor injuries to their eyes, and were treated at the hospital and released, police said.

Egan was booked on numerous counts of assault on a police officer, felony assault, menacing a police officer, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
