Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival turns 10


Get ready for a weekend of fine dining and breathtaking scenery of the island at the 10th annual Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival. The annual fest kicks off on Oct. 19 and will keep the party going through Oct. 22. Here are five events you have to check out at this year’s celebration.


Lobster lovers take note: This is a celebration of one of New England’s signature dishes. Amy Traverso will host and serve up three types of lobster rolls, prepared by Lighthouse Grill’s executive chef, Richard Doucette. Traverso is the senior food editor at Yankee Magazine and has won an International Association of Culinary Professionals award for American cooking.

Island Inspired

Feast on this four-course meal for a tour of the diversity of New England seafood, paired with flavorful Argentine wines. Manning the kitchen is award-winning Boston chef Jeremy Sewall, known for his work at Island Creek Oyster Bar, Row 34 and Les Sablons.

Oh Shucks!

Are oysters right up your alley? Take in some gorgeous views at the Edgartown Yacht Club while enjoying oysters fresh from the Vineyard’s own oyster farms. As the name of the festival suggests, of course wine pairings will be included.

Joseph Carr Dinner

Old-world charm of the Vineyard’s Charlotte Inn will host this intricate dinner, touted as “local-as-local-gets.” Sommelier Joseph Carr will pair this locally sourced gourmet meal with wine selections from Dylan’s Ghost Winery and his own Joseph Carr Wines – two California wineries to compliment a New England meal.

Alsace – “The Sommelier’s Secret Weapon” With Jean Trimbach

Join Jean Trimbach as he leads you through an imaginary tour of the Alsace region’s essential wines. Trimbach, of the legendary Trimbach family (they’ve been in the wine business since 1626) is in from their winery Maison Trimbach for the festival. He’ll offer tastings of the four most important varietals from the region: Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewurztraminer, along with some classic Alsace-inspired small plates.
