Mets trade rumors: Latest on Lucas Duda, Addison Reed, more

It’s been clear for quite some time that the New York Mets are going to be sellers in 2017. So far though, things have been quiet on the trade front.

With the MLB trade deadline just one week away, Mets manager Sandy Alderson has started to get some calls for some notable players.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Mets have received interest for reliever Addison Reed, first baseman Lucas Duda and infielder Asdrubal Cabrera.

Reed has been thrust into a leadership role within New York’s bullpen after Jeurys Familia’s 15-game suspension and later, shoulder surgery. Formerly the eighth-inning man, Reed has performed admirably as the team’s closer with 16 saves.

Duda’s left-handed bat has garnered some looks around the league as well. The imposing first baseman has 17 home runs in just 72 games. Before they signed Todd Frazier, the crosstown-rival Yankees were rumored to have been interested in him.

As for Cabrera, it’s been a trying season. The shortstop has been forced to move to second base, which prompted him to ask for a trade in June. He later rescinded the request, but it is clear that he is not happy in Queens.

Surprisingly though, the market remains quiet on outfielders Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce, which is somewhat surprising considering these are veteran options that provide power at the plate.

Granderson has been relegated to fourth outfielder due to the emergence of Michael Conforto this season. He is on pace for one of his worst professional seasons as he’s batting just .220 with 13 home runs and 37 RBI.

Bruce, on the other hand, is enjoying one of his finest professional seasons as he leads the team with 25 home runs and 65 RBI.
