Millis cop faked shooting attack story: police

Massachusetts State Police

The Millis police are saying that the report of a cruiser being fired upon was fabricated by the officer.

The initial report prompted Millis and State Police to comb the area looking for a suspect in a red pickup truck who is said to have opened fire on a police officer, causing the cruiser to drive off the road and catch fire on Wednesday afternoon. Millis schools were closed on Thursday while officials searched for the non-existent suspect.

Instead, police officials said that the officer fired on his own cruiser and will be kicked off the force as a result.

“…He fired shots into his own cruiser as part of a plan to concoct a story that he was fired upon,” a police spokesman toldthe Boston Globe.

Officials said that the officer, who has not been identified, was a part-time officer and a full-time dispatcher. He claimed to have fired three shots at the suspect after driving off of the road.

According to the Globe, there has been no motive established in the instance.
