The MTA executive with specific responsibility for your subway or bus commute today will be gone by August with less than two years on the job.

Carmen Bianco, President of Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York City Transit, has been in charge of the MTA division since September 2013.

“There is no more challenging job in the American transportation industry than keeping New York City moving every day and positioning it well to serve our customers for decades to come,” Bianco said in statement.

He’s right about that.

There’ll be a search far and wide for his replacement.

By all accounts, Bianco’s tenure has been a bumpy ride: the Sandy flood disaster that ravaged several stations and subway lines; a rising ridership that has been difficult to keep up with; chronic funding problems; and constant trouble on lines like the beleaguered 7.
