Officials are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect related to the case of a Bronx puppy found beaten and tied to pole.

Looking Glass Animal Rescue shared the story of Cleo, a four-month-old beagle puppy found tied to a pole in the Bronx and suffering from severe injuries last week.

On Sept. 27, the NYPD Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad shared an image of someone wanted in questioning related to the Bronx puppy situation.

The Bronx puppy was found tied in front of a barber shop on East 182 Street on Monday, Sept. 17.

Bronx puppy Cleo was also dragged: Looking Glass Animal Rescue

When Looking Glass Animal Rescue first took in Cleo, the four-month-old Bronx puppy, the animal was in critical condition, staff members said.

Cleo suffered a fractured nasal cavity, a fractured eye socket, and a fractured jaw, according to Looking Glass Animal Rescue, as well as symmetrical fractured in both cheeks, which the organization says could only come from being slammed by two objects at the same time or from something like a door.

But staff could tell Cleo was strong, and that helped inspire her new name, said Looking Glass staff member Jody Harris-Stern.

“A friend and supporter of ours gave a great suggestion for a name,” she said via email. “I wanted one that was reflective of her determination, strength, and willingness to survive. She suggested Cleopatra and we chose to call her Cleo for short. Cleopatra was one of the bravest women in the history and one of the strongest.”

Cleo wasn’t just beaten, Looking Glass Animal Rescue learned through the NYPD investigation and via surveillance video. The Bronx puppy was “dragged from the back of a vehicle and thrown on the street before being tied to a pole.”

“It’s miraculous that she survived and thankfully she has been improving every day,” the rescue organization said. “She still has a long road ahead and we will do everything possible to help her heal and catch her abuser.”

The organization is asking for the public’s help identifying the person who abused the Bronx puppy.

People can email Looking Glass Animal Rescue at adopt@lgarinc.org, call the NYPD, or dial Crime Stoppers 800-577-TIPS with any information.

In the meantime, Cleo is improving, said her foster mom Madeline, per Looking Glass.

“She is feeling happy, cozy and loved,” she said of the Bronx puppy.” I got her some soft toys and a bed to make her feel at home and, we are all giving her lots of love. So far she is eating and taking her meds perfectly.”
