A healthcare company is now apologizingafter an ad was placed in a New York newspaper asking for a nurse but specifying that “no Haitians” apply for the position, according to the Associated Press.
The ad reportedlyranin the Oct. 15 issue of the New City Pennysaver forInterim Healthcare Inc. seeking afemale nurse for a job in West Haverstraw that read “Laid back nurse, no Haitians.”
Pennysaver Group says the ad was published in itsweekly print edition by mistake and without “proper editing protocol,” the AP reported, and hasapologized to it readers and the Haitian community.
Interim Healthcare also apologized in a message on its Facebook page, calling the ad “totally unacceptable” and “offensive.” The company added that it’s reviewing its policy and procedures to make sure that it will never happen again.
The mistake was noticed within days and called out on Facebook, according to The Journal News. There has also been more adverse reaction since reports of the ad surfaced through social media.
ARockland County lawmaker,Sen. David Carlucci, has gone one step further and is callingfor an investigation by thestate Department of Labor and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s office, The Journal News reported.
