The 2018 Pakistan Independence Day Parade and Festival will take place this weekend to celebrate Pakistani culture and the nation’s independence.

Now in its 34th year, the Pakistan Independence Day Parade has grown to become the largest celebration of Pakistan in the country.

Independence Day in Pakistan is celebrated each year on August 14 and honors the day the nation became independent at the end of the Crown of India in 1947. The parade and celebration of Pakistan’s Independence will take place in Manhattan this Sunday. 

Thousands of Pakistani-American people are expected to gather in Manhattan to participate in the 2018 Pakistan Independence Day Parade. The parade will end with a festival filled with music, food and dance. 

The Grande Marshal for the 2018 Pakistan Independence Day Parade is Pakistan Ambassador to the United States Ali Jahangir Siddiqui. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is the honorary Grand Marshal. 

Pakistani singer Atif Aslam will take the stage and perform at the festival this year.

2018 Pakistan Independence Day Parade and Festival time, route and location

The parade will take place Sunday, August 5 at 10:00 a.m. EST. It will begin at 38th Street at Madison Avenue and travel down Madison to 27th Street. The 2018 Pakistan Independence Day Festival will take place between 24th and 26th streets on Madison and 26th Street between Madison and Park. Performances will be held at a stage located at near 24th Street and Madison.

According to the New York City Department of Transportation, the following streets will be closed on Sunday, August 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.
