Possible disability “Taxi of Tomorrow” revealed

New Yorkers got their first view of a wheelchair accessible taxi, that could be the future model for city cabs that carry people with disabilities. Starting April 20, about 80 percent of taxi operators will be required to begin buying the Nissan NV200, the “Taxi of Tomorrow” selected under Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Taxi drivers with wheelchair medallions are exempt from purchasing the Nissan car, according to the New York Times, and a judge previously ruled the car didn’t meet ADA compliance. The MV-1, which runs on compressed natural gas, is assembled by AM General in Mishawaka, Ind.
