Police say they are searching for a gunman who fired wildly into a Brooklyn street on Saturday night and wounded a bystander.

Members of the 83rd Precinct are now working to track down a reckless shooter who rattled off shots near the corner of Wyckoff Avenue and Menahan Street in Bushwick at about 8:25 p.m. on May 11.

While investigators say they are still working to determine who the suspect has been targeting, police say a 38-year-old woman was caught in the crossfire, taking a bullet to her leg.

“The woman was crossing the street when she was hit by the gunfire,” said eyewitness Elizbeth Trotman. “She was crying pretty hard. My prayers go out to her.”

EMS rushed the victim to Brookdale University Hospital, where she is expected to make a recovery.

The shooting left many in the area stunned.

“There were cops flying everywhere and that’s strange for this neighborhood,” local Randy Clark said.

“You hear about this stuff happening but to see it up close and personal is insane. I hope the cops catch the suspect as quickly as possible,” Vicki Bloomgarden added.

Law enforcement reported that the suspect, believed to be 27 years old and standing 5 foot 8 and last seen wearing a white t-shirt fled westbound on Menahan Street on foot.

Anyone with information regarding the deadly shooting can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA). You can also submit tips online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, or on X (formerly Twitter) @NYPDTips. All calls and messages are kept confidential.

The incident was part of a busy night for police in Brooklyn. Hours later, the NYPD found a man shot dead outside a home in Brownsville. Meanwhile, police in East Flatbush engaged with an armed suspect and killed him in a shooting that remains under investigation.
