It’s been one year since Robin Williams died at the age of 63, and his friends, family and fans are paying tribute to the legendary actor.

With a film and television career spanning more than 40 years, Williams has left an indelible mark on the entertainment world. The Oscar winning actor and comedic genius was found dead inside his home in Northern California from apparent suicide by hanging on Aug. 11, 2014.

“He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time,” Williams’ representative Mara Buxbaum said following his death.

Williams’ former The Crazy Ones co-star, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, paid tribute to the late comedian on Instagram.

Gellar posted a photo of the bench from Good Will Hunting(1997),along with a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson: “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of the intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the beauty in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that one life has breathed easier because you lived here. This is to have succeeded.”

“You succeeded RW,” she added.
