Sexiest vegans of 2017 named by PETA

PETA announced their list of the sexiest vegans of 2017, and this year, it was a three-way tie.

Many people are becoming vegan these days, for reasons ranging from animal activism to a healthier diet. And a number of celebrities, several of them members of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), are proud vegans: Ellen DeGeneres, Gwen Stefani, Kristen Bell, Lea Michele and Russell Brand, just to name a few

Each year, PETA releases a list of who they consider to be the “sexiest vegans” of the year to honor celebrities who are living meat-free. Last year, actor Liam Hemsworth and singer Jhené Aiko were named the sexiest celebrity vegans.

The organization usually chooses a man and a woman as the sexiest vegan of the year, but this year, three women were named. Ruby Rose, Jenna Dewan Tatum and Maggie Q were named the sexiest vegans for 2017. Other meat-free contenders included Swizz Beatz, Kate McKinnon, Colin Kaepernick, Chloe Grace Moretz and Ricky Gervais.

Ruby Rose

“Orange Is the New Black” and “John Wick: Chapter 2” star Ruby Rose has more than 1.3 million Twitter followers and is a noted animal-rights activist. In 2011, she posed nude for PETA’s magazine ad encouraging people not to wear fur.

It’s a Pink kinda day @marcjacobs ( faux fur like every other thing I wear, for the 100 millionth time )

Jenna Dewan Tatum

A dancer, actor and host of NBC’s “World of Dance,” Jenna Dewan Tatum shares the title of sexiest vegan of 2017. In 2010, she was featured in a sexy photo shoot in which she was covered with body paint to look like a snake. The ad was to raise awareness about the use of reptile skins in fashion. According to Female First, she is a “passionate vegan” and began practicing when she was 11 after watching a documentary on slaughterhouses.

Maggie Q

“Designated Survivor” star Maggie Q is the third winner of sexiest vegan of 2017. In January, she led a demonstration against Canada Goose for their fur-trimmed and feather-filled jackets.

Past winners of PETA’s annual contest include Miley Cyrus, Ellen Page, Jared Leto, Kristen Bell, Jessica Chastain, Carrie Underwood, Natalie Portman, Shania Twain, Andre 3000, Leona Lewis, Tobey Maguire and Alicia Silverstone. PETA is hoping celebrities will influence people to become vegan and advocate for the rights of animals.
