The New York Mets announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have activated third baseman and team captain David Wright from the 60-day disabled list.

Tuesday night marked the start of the final homestand of the season and Wright’s final time at Citi Field in a Mets uniform. In a press conference on Sept. 13, Wright announced that this likely will be his final season in Major League Baseball after his body has been worn down by a series of neck, back and shoulder injuries.

While it is unknown if Wright will appear during this week’s series against the Atlanta Braves, he will start on Saturday against the Miami Marlins.

It is expected to be his final appearance in a Mets uniform as New York’s season ends the very next day, allowing both he and the fans to say farewell to one another.

Just being activated is a major accomplishment for the 35-year-old as many believed his career would be over after the slew of injuries suffered over the past three years.

Wright has appeared in just 75 regular-season games since the 2015 season and has not played in the big leagues since May of 2016 as the second half of what was once expected to be a Hall-of-Fame career was robbed.

He is the franchise leader in hits, doubles, runs scored and RBI.
