Whether it’s green, a good deal or just Irish in an unexpected place, here are some of the food specials for those in need of a bit more than a pint of the black.
AtIn Vino(215 E. Fourth St.), Irish-Italian chef James Kelly will serve a special Bollito Misto di San Patrizio ($26), an Italian take on Irish corned beef and cabbage made from beef brisket in-house, with beef tongue and cotechino, chicken brodo over braised red cabbage with salsa verde, mustard vinaigrette and horseradish cream on the side.
Greenpoint’s Moonlight Mile (200 Franklin St.) is celebrating its first anniversary this month, and though you can choose to toast with any of its collection of 175 whiskeys, these three American varieties done in Irish style will be on special today: Mckenzie Pot Still Whiskey, Pearce Lyons and the Whipper Snapper. The bar will also serve the American Car Bomb ($10) today: Bailey’s and a shot of Town Branch bourbon dropped into a half pint of Left Milk Stout.
Through Saturday, Mira Sushi & Izakaya’s (46 W. 22nd St.) Asian street food will get the Irish touch in the Curry Pie Puffs with curry ketchup ($9). Indian immigrants have made curry a part of Irish pub fare; inside is a mixture of carrots, peas and curry mashed potatoes. Try them with the vibrantly green Good Luck Charm cocktail ($12), prepared with gin, midori, lime juice, and mint and grapefruit bitters.
The Meatball Shop is rolling out The Lucky Baller special today: a slider made with corned beef, mashed potatoes and cabbage, plus a shot of Jameson whiskey for $5.
If you’re looking for something beyond the usual pub fare, Greenpoint Fish & Lobster Co (114 Nassau Ave.) is offerings a pint of Flying Dog Oyster Stout with a half-dozen Irish Point Oysters from Prince Edward Island for $15 from noon to 10 p.m.
Bavarian brewery-restaurant Paulaner (265 Bowery) is cooking up pork belly in dark beer sauce with roasted potatoes and white cabbage slaw. In addition to their whiskey selection, there will also be two fresh brews: Salvator Double Bock, historically brewed during Lent to replace food; and Dunkel Weisse, a wheat beer made with Munich malt.
At the West Village’s Sotto 13 (140 W. 13th St.) you’ll find corned beef and cabbage on a pizza, along with caramelized onions, crushed potatoes, Fontina cheese and fresh yellow mustard.
Grand Central Oyster Bar Brooklyn (256 Fifth Ave., Park Slope) will offer its Dublin Oyster Stout for $6 pint all day, as well as an Irish Stout Granita. On the menu for the day will be Irish Fisherman’s Stew ($11.95), Shillelagh mussels with a Jameson stock broth ($15.95), oyster stout fish and chips ($20.95), Dublin Irish Cheese-crusted whitefish ($23.95) and for dessert, a Jameson & Bailey’s custard trio ($15).
