The term “leader of men” is thrown around often when it comes to head football coaches. It’s a bit of a cliché as we’ve seen plenty of “player’s coaches,” who don’t exactly strike fear in the hearts of their players, win big (Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll comes to mind). But former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was undoubtedly a “leader of men.” Coughlin spoke with The MMQB’s Peter King this week about his current state of mind and he seems like he desperately wants back in to the NFL.
“I’ve coached for 47 years of my life,” Coughlin told King. “You take it away, and that’s no an easy thing to duplicate.
“The 70-year-old man stuff will be a factor [as to whether or not another team gives him a chance] and I’m sure they’ll know this would be a three-or-four year thing.”
Coughlin will turn 70 this August. The earliest he’d get another head coaching gig would be next season when he’d be 71.
