Police say they are investigating after a man was shot in the leg late Monday night outside of an apartment building in Brooklyn that has a long history of violence.
According to police sources, cops from the 73rd Precinct rushed to the Noble Drew Ali Plaza Housing Corporation located at 230 Lott Ave. in Brownsville at around 11:10 p.m. on May 6.
The arriving cops discovered a 37-year-old man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
“He was bleeding from the leg,” resident Natasha King said, explaining she saw the man lying near the building’s elevator. “The cops rushed him to the ambulance along with the paramedics.”
The victim apparently told police that he was outside of the building “watching the game” when an unknown gunman began firing. It is unclear if he was the intended target.
The wounded man was whisked to Brookdale University Hospital, where he is expected to recover from his injuries.
“There were a bunch of shots fired. He was screaming loud for help,” another witness said.
The Noble Drew Ali Plaza has a history of violence dating back decades to the 1980s. A Washington Post profile in 1991 noted that the buildings had been riddled with bullets at the time, and residents suffered from the scourge of drug- and gang-related violence.
