Try rare brews at Boston’s Copenhagen Beer and Music Festival

Copenhagen Beer Festival

Prepare for a Scandinavian invasion as the Copenhagen Beer and Music Festival heads back to Boston this fall.

More than 45 breweries, hailing almost exclusively from Nordic nations and the U.S., will flood into City Hall for three total shows on September 22 and 23. Tickets are already available for purchase and include unlimited tastings at the rǿd (Friday evening), grǿn (Saturday afternoon), or blå (Saturday evening) sessions. Upgraded guld passes grant early admission, tastings from a novelty lager glass and a Mikkeller gift pack.

In a town where specialized beer unendingly flows, the Copenhagen Festival aims to provide exceptionally rare and sought-after brews that would be hard to come by otherwise. Swedish brewery Stigbergets, for example, is critically acclaimed but nearly impossible to locate outside of Gothenburg. Bokkereyderin Belgium has been the center of some international attention for their lambic brewing style, in which coveted small batches are fermented in oak barrels between one to three years. Mikkeller, an organizer of the festival, is especially known for its elusive “gypsy style” beer since they produce their product at partner breweries instead of operating their own location.

Several musicians will also make appearances alongside the myriad of drinks at the festival. Danish and appropriately named The Tremolo Beer Gut, this surfer-rock band will be performing at each session throughout the weekend. Haley Thompson-King will be dishing out trippy country from her debut album “Psychotic Melancholia” during the day on Saturday while the bearded and brawny rock band These Wild Plains will be closing out the evening. Boston-based folk-punk group Tigerman Woah will keep the good times rolling on Friday as you sip artisanal beverages all night long.

More artists, as well as food vendors, will be announced as the event approaches near the end of the summer.
