Video: ‘Game of Thrones’ showrunners talk book spoilers and who’s the best fighter in real life

The ongoing issue about George R. R. Martin finishing the “Game of Thrones” series slowly and the relative speed with which the show is made came up in conversation for the show’s creators at a recent talk in the U.K. Producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and actors Kit Harrington and John Bradley were part of a conversation at the Oxford Union, where they talked about a range of things related to making the show, but in particular, whether the show will eventually pass the books, since it’s made more quickly. The answer, which you can see about 34minutes into the event, is that they’re planning for that.

Says Benioff: “We can’t put the show on hiatus…Luckily, we’ve been talking about this withGeorge for a long time ever since we saw this could happen and we know where things are heading. We’ll eventually basically meet up at pretty much the same place where George is going. There might be a few deviations along the route, but we’re heading towards the same destination. I wish there were somethings we didn’t have to spoil fin terms of the books, but, we’re kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place.”

The rock and the hard place he’s talking about would be that they don’t want to interfere with Martin’s creative process, but they also can’t put the actors on hiatus for two years while they wait for new books.

The rest of the interview is also worth watching, if you’re interested in such tidbits as what the producers needed to know to impress Martin (who Jon Snow’s mother is, and no, they don’t reveal it),what characters everyone wishes they were and which actor has picked up the most fighting skills on set.
