Will the Game Of Thrones season 7 finale finally give us Cleganebowl?

The Hound and The Mountain in Game of Thrones

Over the years, Game Of Thrones fans have devised countless theories, most of which have never come close to making it to air. But it looks as though one of the most popular is actually on the verge of unfolding, because everything is now in place for the Games Of Thrones season 7 finale to depict the Cleganebowl.

Long touted by viewers, Cleganebowl will see the brothers Sandor “The Hound” Clegane and Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane fight to the death. Cleganebowl has actually been teased from the very first season. But while we saw The Hound and The Mountain briefly fight against each other in the fifth episode, they have since gone off on wildly different paths, making Cleganebowl feel like a pipe dream.

That was up until the end of Beyond The Wall, as the penultimate episode of Game Of Thrones’s seventh season teased that The Hound will be travelling to Westeros alongside Jon Snow and their captured wight. The Mountain is already at Westeros, as he is Cersei Lannister’s personal knight, and just the sight of The Hound pulling out his sword has already led viewers to assume their duel is imminent.

This potential sneak peek at Cleganebowl was teased in a Game Of Thrones season 7 trailer back in June. The sight of The Hound pulling out his sword comes at the 1 minute and 20 second mark. Since he has primarily been in the North and beyond The Wall in recent episodes, and he appears to be reaching for his weapon in sunny Westeros, it is almost a certainty that the scene will take place in the finale.

Considering that Game Of Thrones’ seventh season has done a sterling job of delivering moments that fans have been fantasizing about for years, it almost feels like a formality that Cleganebowl will unfold. Fingers crossed we’ll finally get to see it when the Game Of Thrones season 7 finale airs on Sunday August 27.
