“Yo! MTV Raps” co-creator Peter Dougherty is dead at 59 after a fatal heart attack, Billboard reports. Dougherty, along with Ted Demme, premiered “Yo! MTV Raps” in 1988, the music channel’s first hip-hop show. Related: R. Kelly’s all-you-can-hear musical ‘Buffet’ A two-hour program, the show was a mix of rap music videos and interviews and helped legitimize hip-hop music on the influencial channel.The show was syndicated on MTV Europe, MTV Asia and MTV Latino, helping spread popular hip-hop music all over the world.
