Officials: Help us ID ‘Baby Doe’ found in a trash bag on Deer Island

Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley said that the remains of the young girl found on Deer Island last week were found in an industrial trash bag with a blanket, but the autopsy does not suggest a cause of death.

Authorities have not been able to identify her yet. The images of her were created by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children from photographs of “Baby Doe.”

“The image we have here today is an artist’s rendering of what she might have looked at,” Conley said. “As you can see, she would have been a beautiful child and deserves a dignified burial with her name attached.”

The girl is estimated to have been about 4-years-old with brown hair, brown eyes, standing three feet tall and weighed about 30 lbs. A woman walking her dog found her remains at about 1 p.m. on Thursday.

While there are no charges in connection to the child’s death, Conley said that the manner in which she was found suggests that she did not die of natural causes. There were no visible injuries that may have led to death.

“As for the bag, she could have gotten caught in it in the currents or she could have been placed in it,” Conley said. “We don’t think she was in the place she was found for that long.”

The child was wearing white and black polka dot leggings and had a zebra-style blanket with her.

“Our goal is to spread these images as far and wide as we can,” Conley said. “We’re looking for daycare provider, preschool teacher, physician, clerk, parents from park. No bit of information is too small.”

The State Police said that folks attending Fourth of July parties should keep an extra eye out for parents who don’t have their child on hand.

Officials are concerned with finding her caretakers who may have other children in their care.

“This child came to sudden and unnatural death,” Massachusetts State Police Major Hughes said. “We need to get to the bottom of this. We need to find parents or caretakers to see if other children are in the home that might need our protection. We won’t rest until this is solved.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the State Police, Winthrop Police or the District Attorney’s office.
