Police release DNA profile of likely killer in Princeton jogger case

Gas found on Vanessa Marcotte’s body, suspect bought gas that day, cops say

The person who killed 27-year-old Vanessa Marcottewhen she took an afternoon jog near her mother’s Princeton, Massachusetts, home in August is likely an athletic man in his 30s, according to a DNA profile police released Thursday.

The killer had a shaved or short hair and is of average height, based on witness descriptions,Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said at a news conference. He was believed to have been driving a dark-colored SUV on the day of the slaying, NECN reported.

Police said the suspect would have likely been covered in scratches following the attack, as Marcotte struggled with him.

Marcotte, a New York City resident and account manager for Google,was found not far from her family’s Princeton home on the evening of Aug. 7, 2016, when she did not return home from her jog. Her hands, feet and part of her head were burned, according to WCVB.

Police have received more than 1,300 tips on a dedicated line, but Early warned the public not to approach anyone they suspect is connected with the crime.

“This person of interest should not be confronted by anyone in the public,” he said.

Investigators have asked anyone with information to call 508-453-7589 and speak to investigators.

Marcotte’s family also launched a website, VanessaMarcotte.org, to collect information about Marcotte and the investigation.
