Get ready to shed the sweaters and jackets as summer will make a comeback this week.

Normally during this time of the year, you start reaching for your autumnal gear. Well, put that on hold as temperatures will rise to near record levels for some as southwesterly winds will usher in unseasonably warm temperatures.

It’s a late season Bermuda high-influence, high-pressure centered over the the western Atlantic. A huge clockwise flow of southwesterly winds circulates near Bermuda and extends down into the Gulf states and then sweeps up along the Eastern seaboard.

The results during July and August would be helter-swelter with the mercury soaring into the mid-90s. However, during this time of the year many locations from Philly to New York City to Boston will see temps pop into the mid-80s. Low temperatures by Tuesday morning will be in the lower 60s — normally this would be about the average high for this time of the year.

Now I know what you’re thinking: Will this warm shot last into your up-coming weekend? Sorry no can do, as a coastal low could form by Friday and send some rain up along the East Coast, followed by much cooler temperatures over this weekend as the mercury falls back into the 60s and 50s.

On average, October will have above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation.

Hurricane Season

My long range hurricane outlook that I put out in May, for the season of 2016 was for an active hurricane season with more named storms than normal. Most experts had a below average outlook. So far this season, my forecast has verified as the hurricane season has been quite active with already 14 named storms as Hurricane Nicole struck the island of Bermuda this past Thursday as a major hurricane. Nicole continues to churn massively high seas in the North Atlantic creating problems for the shipping and fishing lanes. I’m forecasting continued tropical activity through the month of October.
