The Mets reportedly reached an agreement with the Pirates to trade JonathonNiese to Pittsburgh in exchange for second baseman Neil Walker.
Walker hit .269 and had an OBP of .328 last season with the Pirates. He belted 16 home runs and drove in 71 runs.
The move effectively puts an end to the Mets would-be free agent pursuit of playoff hero Daniel Murphy.
