Watch Coast Guard rescue sailors from stranded boat off Rockaway Beach

The NYPD and FDNY are still on the scene.

A U.S. Coast Guard boat capsized off the coast of Rockaway Beach Thursday morning while coming to the aid of a fishing boat that had run aground.

The five Coast Guard crewmembers from the 25-foot rescue vessel were not injured when they got to the beach after the capsizing, ABC reported. The fishing crew was also uninjured after being rescued with a Coast Guard helicopter and basket.

The fishing vessel remains stuck in the mud, CBS added in a related report. A newly arrived Coast Guard vessel is on the scene, but large waves are hampering its capabilities.

The New York City Office of Emergency Management told ABC that the NYPD and FDNY are on the scene assisting the still-capsized Coast Guard vessel.

The reason why the fishing vessel initially ran aground remains unclear, according to ABC.
