Crane part crashes into Three World Trade Center

A crane pulley struck ThreeWorld Trade Center on Thursday night.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene after a crane pulley assembly crashed into the 12th floor just before 8:30 p.m.

Tishman Construction spokesman John Gallagher said in a statement that the wind caused the weighted ball to strike the glass as crewmemberswere pulling the unloaded hook and line in as a safety precaution due to the storm, CBS2 New York reported.

The glass panel cracked, but nothing is in danger of falling, Gallagher said.

The building, which is under construction, wasunoccupied. No injuries were reported.

The crane is on top of the 45-story building.

“Safety inspectors and authorities are on site and looking into the incident,” Gallagher said in the statement, CBS2 reported. “The panel will be replaced.”

Three World Trade Center is one of three skyscrapers being built to replace the twin towers destroyed in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
