Lady Gaga comes to Ed Sheeran’s defense, encourages fans to be kind

Lady Gaga Grammys Red Carpet 2017

Yesterday, Ed Sheeran — singer of “Shape of You,” a song played in grocery stores and nail salons on repeat worldwide — opened up about quitting Twitter. ““I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it,” the singer-songwriter told The Sun. “I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. One comment ruins your day. The headf—k for me has been trying to work out why people dislike me so much.”

He added that many of his trolls were Lady Gaga fans, ones that misinterpreted a thing he said in an interview about success and wanting fame. “Lady Gaga’s fan base read an interview in which they assumed I was talking about her and they all f—cking hate. And it wasn’t anything to do with that at all,” he said. “So, I think Twitter gets on a massive steam roll of assuming things and then you get in the s—t.”

Today is a new day. A new, warm, sweaty day. A day where Lady Gaga herself has come to Sheeran’s defense.

Gaga wrote in an Instagram post, of course, that Sheeran deserves to be loved and respected, and also that she LOVES him — all caps are hers, obvs. “What an incredible talented artist. I LOVE ED,” she wrote. See? “@teddysphotos deserves all our love and respect like all humans do. I wish all people on the internet would be positive and loving and a part of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean.” Gaga then went on to encourage her followers to work harder to be kinder to everybody. Hashtag inspirational!

Whether or not it’s enough to get the 26-year-old Brit back on Instagram, well. We’ll just have to wait and see.
