Who dies in The Walking Dead?
Well, if producers and creators are to be believed, everyone — eventually. They’ve been very clear that no one is safe in this post-apocalyptic world. After all, if you’re a fan of the show, you’ve seen that the people still living rival the zombies, or walkers, episode to episode for top threats list.
But answering who died in The Walking Dead isn’t so simple. We’re going to have to set some ground rules before we launch into a full list — and even when pared down, the list is going to be quite long.
First of all, we’re going to make this list about who dies in The Walking Dead the TV show, which airs on AMC. Though the series creators have done an excellent job managing expectations of fans crossing over to the show from the original comic books, that doesn’t mean they never take creative license. Some characters in the show have died long before in the comics. Some of them don’t exist at all on the pages, only on our screens. So for the sake of accuracy, we’re only talking about who dies in The Walking Dead as you know it every Sunday on your small screen.
Second, we’re going to focus on the characters you would actually know. Thug #3 from Negan’s army of Saviors, for example, will not be included in this roundup. But even the faces you’ve forgot from Rick’s (much larger) group in the first season of the hit series will be counted among who dies in The Walking Dead. (Remember Jacqui? No, well you will soon.)
Third, even though we’re inching toward a philosophical debate here, we’re including characters who have turned into zombies in this list of who dies on The Walking Dead. While the walkers aren’t technically dead — there’s a reason zombies are called the un-dead — they’re no longer the character you got to know throughout the show. That’s why we’re counting them.
