MBTA cancels service Tuesday for Boston blizzard

Nicolaus Czarnecki, Metro

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has announced it will suspend all public transportation service as Winter Storm Juno hits the Boston-area Tuesday night.

MBTA service will halt Tuesday at midnight, and will remain shut down throughout the day Tuesday, the T said Monday.

The blizzard, which meteorologists have described as “crippling,” could drop 3 feet of wet, heavy snow on the region.

MBTA service is expected to resume Wednesday.

“With public safety of paramount importance, all modes of MBTA service will be suspended all day and night on Tuesday… The MBTA has put its winter plan into action in preparation for the storm,” The T said on its website Monday afternoon.

Customers are prohibited from parking overnight at any MBTA station in order to enhance snow removal efforts, transit officials said.

Updates on T service are available at www.mbta.com.
