New study reveals what makes someone creepy

Creepy man

Sometimes, you meet someone and they just rub you the wrong way — even if you can’t put your finger on why. A new study set out to determine what exactly makes someone a creep.

Conducted at Knox College, researchers had over 1,300 people fill out survey ranking 44 different physical or personality traits, on a scale of one to five (five being super creepy, one being not creepy at all). The questions took into account different physicalities, hobbies, jobs and behaviors.

When it came to physical qualities that ranked high in creepiness, greasy hair, long fingers, pasty skin and dark undereye bags were all at the top. Wearing dirty or “weird” clothes was up there, too. As far as behavior goes, laughing at inappropriate times, standing too close, talking too much about one specific topic, and not letting someone out of a conversation all ranked high.

Wondering if your profession makes you a creep? If you’re a clown, sex shop owner, funeral director or cab driver, people may — perhaps unfairly — be prejudging you. And if your hobbies include taxidermy or collecting things, you might want to keep that to yourself.
