If you’re the type of person who likes to chow down in the A.M. at home and when you get to work, good news: a new study says doubling up on meals in the morning is actually better for you than skipping breakfast all together.
Conducted by the University of Connecticut’s Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity, researchers studied students at 12 different schools for two years, from 5th grade through 7th grade, studying their eating habits and how their weight fluctuated. Students who skipped breakfast were twice as likely to be obese as students who ate breakfast at home, and then again when they got to school.
Of course the findings do come with a grain of salt. The study doesn’t exactly say why the two-breakfast-a-day eaters maintained a healthier weight, although researchers hypothesize that it probably has to do with keeping their metabolism balanced and also keeps them from overindulging in sugary foods later in the day. Also, obviously it was growing kids being studied, not adults.
Still, if you’re looking for an excuse to indulge a little extra in the mornings, the results are promising. As long as your two morning meals aren’t donuts and bacon, egg & cheeses.
