The New York City Police Department confirmed that it would send officers near some news media offices Wednesday morning. The news comes after a reporter and cameraman were shot and killed while on assignment and on live television in Virginia.

By the late morning, state officials in Virginia told reporters suggested that the suspect might be a former coworker.
“Law enforcement personnel have a photo of the suspect,” Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said on a radio program hours after the shooting. “We believe it’s a disgruntled employee of the station, and they’re in pursuit.” Reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, both died after they were reporting live at around 6:45 a.m.
