Police are searching for a suspect who they say attacked an off-duty officer in an attempted robbery Wednesday.
The incident occurred at 1850 Clinton Ave. in the Bronx, near Prospect Playground, just before 7 p.m.Anunidentified man approached from victim, a 53-year-old NYPD officer, from behind and attempted to forcibly remove several necklaces, according to authorities. During the struggle, the officer fired one round from his 9mm service weapon.
The suspect, described as a 6-foot tallblack man in his mid-20s, wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and black sneakers, fled the area. His photo was captured on surveillance camera at 1794 Clinton Ave., before the incident. The officer was transported to Saint BarnabasHospital for neck abrasions and a minor injury to his hand. He was later released.
