“Runaway Bride” and “Tuck Everlasting” are the movies. The turn-of-the-century ambiance with gaslights, gilt lettering on shop windows, and no dangling electric wires almost requires that the businesses be skewed towards one-off specialty shops, boutiques, antiques, galleries, and artist co-ops.

The Atlantic Hotel is the centerpiece, a Victorian classic that’s been lovingly restored. Drummer’s Café is the on-site restaurant. The Globe was once the movie palace. It takes “dinner and a movie” literally by showing classic films on a small screen while patrons dine. Rayne’s has real milkshakes.
There are two festivals Sept. 17-20. Paint Berlin Plein Air invites artists to capture the town on canvas, while the Fiddlers’ Convention (Sept. 18-20) features professional and amateur artists entertaining and competing.
