While you were sleeping…

Good morning!

As you were recharging from the weekend, a lot happened around the world. The city curfew in Baltimore was lifted as the Maryland National Guard was preparing to leave town. The new “Avengers” movie also raked in an obscene amount of money at the box office.

A Florida man announced plans to sue a local hospital after they tossed his amputated leg in the garbage (with his name tag still on it). And Hillary Clinton took some heat from Republicans over her age.
Baltimore mayor announces end of city curfew
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced Sunday that Baltimore’s night curfew has been lifted. The curfew was put in place following the riots and looting that occurred after the death of Freddie Gray, a young black man who recently died in police custody after sustaining lethal injuries. Gray’s death, which has been ruled a homicide, had prompted the Maryland National Guard to take to the streets. Rawlings-Blake says they’ll begin withdrawing over the next week.
New ‘Avengers’ movie kills it at the box office
Disney and Marvel are a force to be reckoned with. The most recent installment of the “Avengers” film series dominated the box office this weekend, raking in nearly $188 million. It marks the second-biggest domestic opening in history. Industry experts predict the film to surpass $1 billion worldwide. (It already pulled in $627 million globally in just 12 days.) Summer blockbuster season is officially upon us.
Guy finds amputated leg in garbage, sues hospital
A 56-year-old Miami man was shocked to learn that his right leg, which had been amputated below the knee, was later found in a garbage — with his name tag still on it. The standard procedure is for hospitals to incinerate amputated limbs, which obviously didn’t happen in this case. The man learned of what happened when the leg was discovered at a waste management facility and then reported to local police. He’s suing the hospital for emotional distress.
Hillary Clinton too old to run for president?
Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign is barely underway, but her political rivals are already slamming her hard on a wide array of issues. Aside from her political viewpoints, which most would agree is fair game, her age is also coming under fire. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has even made a “Golden Girls” reference. If Clinton does indeed win the 2016 election, she’ll be 69 when she’s sworn in. That would make her the second-oldest newbie president, right behind Ronald Reagan (who celebrated his 70th birthday shortly after taking the oath).
