The Bachelorette Becca Kufrin just made her debut in front of 28 potential suitors on Monday, but one contestant is already proving to be controversial.
On Tuesday, an anonymous Instagram account posted screenshots showing that medical sales rep Garrett Yrigoyen liked right-wing memes — and now a Care2 petition is calling for him to be thrown off the show.
According to his ABC bio, the 29-year-old is “a true outdoorsman who loves fly fishing, hiking and snowshoeing.” But the petition creator says he’s also a “total dude-bro tool.”
“He likes things on Instagram about throwing immigrant children back over the wall and posts dehumanizing trans folks,” Kelsey Bourgeois wrote in the petition description. “He likes a post by infamous horrible person Tomi Lahren that makes the argument that feminists are fat and therefore don’t deserve to be listened to. He has even liked posts harassing mass shooting survivors and calling them ‘crisis actors’.”
Yrigoyen later deleted his Instagram account and apparently started a new one that implies his Instagram were not his doing. “Throwback since my old account got hacked,” he captioned in a photo on his new account.
Warning: Possible Bachelorette spoilers ahead
Bourgeois launched the petition to “make sure [Kufrin] knows who she’s dealing with.”
“I’m especially worried because he got the first impression rose, which typically signifies that that person will go really far in the competition,” Bourgeois added. “In fact, they often win. It’s possible that Becca won’t find out these things during the filming of the season so we need to be sure she finds out.”
It might be too late.
TMZ posted some photos earlier this month that were reportedly taken on The Bachelorette set in the Maldives. The photos — taken on May 10 at Shangri-La’s Resort — showed The Bachelorette kissing a man who appears to be Yrigoyen.
Kufrin already admitted that she is engaged, and Yrigoyen seems to confirm it.
“Nothing has changed since last memorial day weekend…well, one thing has,” he wrote.
