No question about it: Taylor Swift has built an incredible superfan base by being what no other pop diva has succeeded at being: totally approachable. I mean, come on: Lady Gaga, Queen Bey, and Lorde (whose debut song was, in fact, “Royals) don’t exactly have images that scream “you could totally be my best friend!” Taylor, with her secret album sessions at home, perpetually-surprised face when she receives awards, and awkward white-girl dance moves, seems to be screaming the opposite. Even so, there are some things about the country—ahem, POP—superstar that not even her millions and millions of BFFs might have known:

1.Even though she’s told many a talk-show anecdote about knocking on Nashville music execs’ doors when she was 10, being a singer wasn’t Taylor’s original dream. She actually used to want to be a financial advisor. I mean, someone’s gotta do it, right?

2. She’s written a novel. While bored one summer, Taylor penned a book about a shark washing up on her family home’s dock.

3. The original lyrics in “Picture to Burn” included “go and tell your friends that I’m obsessive and crazy/That’s fine I’ll tell mine that you’re gay.” But they were ultimately changed to “That’s fine you won’t mind if I say” on account of being, you know, super offensive.

4. On her MySpace page from back when MySpace was a relevant thing, she cited Ellen DeGeneres and Kerri Russell as the “coolest celebrities ever.”

5. Allegedly, she has a photo of the esteemed “Imma Let You Finish” cultural milestone framed in her home in Nashville. (We really, really hope this one is true.)

6. “The Best Day,” a song from her Fearless album, was written for her mom. Taylor had to stop performing it live because she could hear her mom crying from backstage every time she sang it.

7. After the backlash for her 2010 Grammy performance (the Internet basically spent the better part of a week slamming Taylor’s vocals. Must be tough for a professional singer.), T-Swizzle (we’re switching it up) stopped Googling herself.

8. Her grandparents were married for 51 years, then died a week apart. So next time you judge the girl for being a hopeless romantic, remember that she’s following that up.

9. Her grandmother (mom’s mom), Marjorie Finlay, was a pretty well-known opera singer in the 1950s.

10. She’s never been in love. Yup.
